Alexis Cortez, born in La Habra, California in 1993, started working in the arts program at Tierra del Sol in 2024. Cortez, who has been drawing and painting since she was in Junior High school, creates images of places and environments depicted with an uneasy emptiness. She renders her scenes, which feature an intentional lack of human figures, in realistic representations and infuses them with an undercurrent of quiet dread. Inspired both by places she has visited and the horror media she consumes, Cortez subtly intertwines these influences in her art. When she is not drawing or painting, she enjoys playing video games and reading scary books and superhero comics. Cortez currently lives in Upland, California.
Alexis Cortez has exhibited her work at the Tierra del Sol Gallery, West Hollywood; and the Wignall Museum of Contemporary Art at Chaffey College, Rancho Cucamonga, both in California.
